Doitao lake was found in 1962 when the Phumiphol Dam finished it constructions for the Hydroelectric purposes. This is a biggest Dam for Hydroelectric in Thailand which can supply 36 provinces in Northern and Central of Thailand.

As Doitao lake has covered over the villages those living thousands of years. Thai government has moved them to the new area where called Doitao District.

Doitao lake is a new name of their previous villagethat change their life from being farmers become fishermen. But their life is not that easy, water fills up only rainny seasonand winter season. At dry season water from Phumiphol Dam has to be drained for major Thai farmers in lowerland. Leave the Doitao lake drought that fishermen will turn to be farmers again. The agriculture is not that easy that it may be flooded when rain come ealier.
